Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How do I get help for my IE classes?

IISE and ISyE have tutoring services available for most ISyE courses at GT! Here is a message from the service:

“This website contains the schedule: [https://www.gtiise.org/tutoring]. [We offer] free tutoring services for ISYE 2027, ISYE 3030, ISYE 3232, ISYE 3133, ISYE 3104, and ISYE 4031. Generally, we are “open” from 6pm to 9pm EST Sunday through Thursday.”

  • What should I be doing over summer semesters?

Many students try to get professional internship experience or take classes. Internships and co-ops can help you stand out to employers when you get to looking for a full-time role senior year. They help provide context and applications for the different skills and methods that you learn in your ISyE courses.

If you are trying to get ahead on your degree, you can take summer classes at GT as well! A fun way to do this is to study abroad with an exchange program or a faculty-led program. By immersing yourself in the culture of a foreign country, you can broaden your perspective on the world and show employers that you have global competency.

  • How can I get involved in clubs on campus?

Check out https://gatech.campuslabs.com/engage/organizations for a complete list of organizations at GT!

Another great way to get involved is through a First-Year Leadership Organization (FLO), or through your living learning community, if you are in one!

  • How can I succeed in my online classes?

  1. Make sure you check your email and your course’s Canvas announcements page at least once every day.

  2. Record all homework and exam due dates as soon as the professor makes them available.

  3. Double check that your assignment and exam submissions have posted correctly.

  4. Let your professor know as soon as possible if something is missing from the Canvas page.

  5. Watch video lectures live, if possible. Make sure to keep up with the pace set by the professor.

  6. Follow your professor’s rules about collaboration.

  7. Make friends in your classes! Don’t be afraid to reach out to other students.

  • What are good resume builders for a freshman?

The ISYE Jobs and Announcements canvas page is great resource to keep an eye on. As a freshman it is good to take advantage of competitions and info sessions to build your network. Workshops are also great way to learn new skills such as Excel, Tableau or even mock interviews.

  • ISYE Places to study other than the CULC:

    • Top floor of the Instructional Center

    • Second floor of the ISYE Annex

    • Sofas in the bridge connecting ISYE Annex and Groseclose

    • First floor of Groseclose Building

  • My assigned advisor is not available because of my schedule, what do I do?

Do not worry! Even if your assigned advisor is not available in the times you are free you can still email your advisor to see if you can schedule an appointment later. Depending on the urgency of the situation they may work something out with a different advisor that is available.

  • How can I get involved in scholarships?

Constantly pay attention to your email. Clubs such as IISE, SWE and other mentorship programs are consistently offering scholarships to talented students. Just make sure you read the emails and apply!
